In the late 1930s, the growing Jewish community in the Pera and Galata districts led to an urgent need for a new place of worship. In response, two young architects designed and completed Neve Shalom in 1951. Situated in the historic Balat neighborhood near the Golden Horn, the Ahrida Synagogue was originally constructed by Jewish settlers from Ohrid, Macedonia, over 550 years ago. This remarkable synagogue, which underwent significant restoration during the Quincentennial Celebrations in 1992, is especially famous for its unique boat-shaped bimah.
